Additionally, JCAHO reported that orthopedic/podiatric operations were the most frequent source of surgical errors.

Yet another source of surgical errors is post-operative complications, such as the development of blood clots in the legs, which can lead to a pulmonary embolism. Staph infections may occur and, if the physician fails to appropriately identify and treat the infection, the patient may develop catastrophic injuries and subsequently to wrongful death. And finally, there is always the possibility that an individual may develop post-operative pneumonia or other respiratory or cardiovascular complications resulting from inappropriate post-operative care.
